What are antibodies?
An antibody is a kind of protective protein produced by our immune system. Immune response is triggered when human body detects the presence of antigens which in turn starts producing antibodies. Immunoglobulin M (IgM) and Immunoglobulin G (IgG) are two common kinds of antibodies. Once our body cells are infected, IgM antibodies will be developed first for a limited time, followed by IgG antibodies which can provide a relatively sustainable period of protection.
How are COVID-19 antibodies produced?
Antibodies are produced by the immune system when SARS-CoV-2 antigens are present in the body. Antigens can be introduced to the body through infection or vaccination.
How long does it take to produce antibodies after vaccination?
Different immune responses and types of vaccine affect the amount of antibody produced after vaccination. Immune system starts producing antibodies 2 weeks after the 1st dose of vaccine, but only to generate a higher level of antibodies 2 weeks after the 2nd dose.
How to check if antibodies are produced?
COVID-19 serum antibody test from INDICAID labTM can provide a quantitative antibody test report within 48 hours using blood specimen collected by professional medical staff.
Serum antibody test is eligible for:
Those who hold a valid ID card, birth certificate, or any other valid identification documents (including both Hong Kong and non-Hong Kong residents), and have no serious symptoms (Please refer to the questions below to see what serious symptoms are not suitable for serum antibody test).
How does serum antibody test work?
Our serum antibody test detects the IgG antibody response against spike protein of SARS-oV-2, and provides quantitative detection result for targeted IgG to determine the antibody level.
What type of specimen does serum antibody test use?
We use blood specimens to perform our serum antibody tests.
How to collect the specimen?
Our testing service employs professional medical staff to help collect your test specimen. The whole collection process takes only 2-3 minutes.
How much blood is needed for the serum antibody test?
Our serum antibody test only needs 3-5ml of whole blood specimen.
Can I get tested if I am unwell?
INDICAID labTM's testing services are not intended for individuals who are suffering from a cold, experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or other severe symptoms, including severe fever, constant chest pain or pressure, severe cough, severe shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing, constant light-headedness or serious disorientation. For those who are suffering from any of these symptoms, we recommend using the INDICAID® COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test kit or seek medical advice from your healthcare provider.
Any precautions prior to the test?
Immune system usually starts generating a higher level of antibodies 2 weeks after the 2nd dose. It is recommended to book a serum antibody test 2 weeks after your 2nd dose of vaccination.
Who need to test their antibody level?
Every one can test their antibody level, especilaly:
  • Vaccinated individuals
  • COVID-19 recovered patients
  • Individuals wanting to understand their antibody level before receiving a booster shot
What is serum antibody test used for?
  • Accurate detection of COVID-19 antibody levels from blood serum samples
  • Quantitative COVID-19 antibody test report
  • Check for effective COVID-19 antibody production after vaccination
  • HK Government recognised COVID-19 antibody test report
What kind of COVID-19 vaccine antibody can be tested by the serum antibody test?
INDICAID labTM COVID-19 serum antibody test can be used to test for effective antibody production of various vaccines, including Sinovac or BioNTech.

How to receive my serum antibody test report?
Test report within 48 hours.

You will receive a SMS and email notification when your result is ready. You can login to your INDICAID labTM account to view your result.

What does the test result data represent?
Quantitative results can be shown on your test report. An IgG antibody level higher than 50 AU/mL indicates a positive result, whereas a lower level indicates a negative result. However, the positive threshold might differ due to different instruments used at different laboratories.
Will I still be infected with SARS-CoV-2 if there are antibodies detected?
Antibodies developed after vaccination can enhance the protection against SARS-CoV-2, however it is still possible to be infected since different immune responses and types of vaccine can affect the amount of antibody produced after vaccination as well as the period of protection by antibodies.
How do I know if I need a COVID-19 booster shot?
According to research findings, a COVID-19 booster shot can be more effective against SARS-CoV-2. It is recommended that you receivea a serum antibody test from INDICAID labTM to check your antibody level, and make your own arrangements for the 3rd dose according to your own needs (please refer to the government's latest announcement for more details).
